God’s Present of His Presence
By Larry DeBruyn
Among contemporary evangelicals there’s a lot of talk and publicity given to “encountering,” becoming “intimate” with or seeking God’s “presence.” Often spelled with an upper case “P,” evangelical Christians are now recommending a variety of ways, ancient and modern, to experience “Presence.” Yet, the Bible teaches that our experiencing God’s presence depends upon His initiation. We can no more manipulate God’s presence in us than resurrect ourselves from the dead or seat ourselves with Him in heaven (Ephesians 2:1-10).
