2024 LBC Nigeria Mission Report

Nigeria Mission Trip – Nov 2024 Lagos

Pastor Austin Huggins participated in this year’s Lagos Bible Conference in Nigeria alongside Pastor Ronald Kalifungwa from Zambia, as well as the elders of Sovereign Grace Bible Church in Lagos. Below is a brief accounting of labors.

“The Minister as a Shepherd” – Pastor’s Intensive

This Years Pre-Conference event consisted of a pastor’s intensive aimed at prospective and aspiring ministers. With about 50 or so, including seminary students and current pastors, in attendance, the goal of the intensive was to provoke those in, or desiring, the office, to reconsider the language of scripture as it related specifically to Pastoral work. The pastor is not merely an orator, a sermonizer, or an administrator, but scripture refers to him as a shepherd. True under-shepherds derive the design and nature of their work from The Chief Shepherd and Bishop of our souls who laid down his own life for the sheep. The Lord Jesus said to Peter, that if he loved Him. then: “Feed my lambs.”

The Intensive seemed to be very well received by all. Three interactive teaching sessions were conducted back-to-back dealing with The Minister As Shepherd, The Work of The Shepherd, & The Hope of The Shepherd. The sessions focused heavily on the experimental aspects and deeply sacrificial nature of the work handed down to us. Lunch was included and afterwards an overall Q&A discussion on the sessions covered was conducted for the final hour. At last, a copy of A Minister as Shepherd was then distributed freely to each attendee for their ongoing consideration and edification.

NOTE: Two Ghanaian brothers who attended the intensive were deeply impacted by the discussions and asked for the material to be covered in there own country nearby. Please pray, if it be The Lord’s will, that He will provide the resources and the means to do so in the near future.

Lagos Bible Conference: Discernment in an Age of Deception

Charles Spurgeon once wrote,“Discernment is not the ability to tell the difference between right and wrong; rather, it is telling the difference between right and almost right Spurgeon was reiterating a truth clearly established in the Scriptures.”

The Book of Proverbs states, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Prov. 14:12), Similarly, the writer of Hebrews warns, Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called Today, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Heb. 312-13).

These passages illustrate the deceptive nature of the world and the critical need for discernment among Christians. Recently, we have observed an alarming trend in Nigeria, where individuals propagate strange doctrines mixed with truths, capturing the minds of the undiscerning.
To address this, we have chosen as the theme for the 24th edition of the Lagos Bible Conference, “DISCERNMENT IN AN AGE OF DECEPTION” to illuminate this issue through the lens of God’s holy word.
